Can You Buy CBD and Vapes on Amazon?

The United States continues to take big strides forward, officially recognizing the medical benefits of cannabidiol (CBD) and how it could revolutionize the industry.

However, if you thought it would be easy to shop for vape kits and CBD oil online, you’ll be in for a nasty surprise: you can’t buy CBD on Amazon, at least not in the way you might expect.

As a matter of fact, the confusion surrounding CBD oil and vape kits on Amazon lead to disappointed customers. To avoid the same fate, here’s a quick look at what you can and can’t find online.

Can You Buy CBD on Amazon?

Jumping straight to the main question, the short answer is no.

You’ll find a lot of products that claim they sell CBD oil and vape juice with CBD components but that’s not entirely true.

Before you even mention it, no, CBD is not legal in all 50 states. The medical benefits of CBD are astounding, no doubt, but it’s not yet universally accepted in the country. Hemp, on the other hand, is legal across the board but to a certain limit.

This is the reason why you’ll see a lot of CBD products on Amazon hiding behind hemp labels. You could always take the risk and buy a product labeled with hemp oil as an ingredient but there’s no way you’ll know for sure if it’s hemp oil or real CBD oil. Customer reviews could shed some light but even that’s not reliable.

But, this relates strictly to CBD oil extract. What about purchasing vape juice with CBD in it? Can you still purchase e-liquids with CBD oil or are they too relegated to hiding behind hemp?

Can You Find Vape CBD for Sale on Amazon?

It also means you won’t find any vape juice that clearly states “CBD oil” as an active ingredient. They must work around the legal nomenclature dictated by the US government and Amazon’s rules.

Like other products with CBD oil, vape juice with CBD oil ingredients aren’t legal on Amazon. The only way you’ll get your hands on these is to buy e-liquids labeled with hemp. Some may contain CBD oil in them while others only contain pure hemp oil extract.

Keep in mind, this is different from vape juice with hemp flavors. The flavors could be entirely artificial and won’t carry any of the healthy compounds from the real deal. You could find vape juice that tastes like it has hemp in it but it could be nothing more than artificial flavoring.

If this all sounds confusing, here’s a quick dive into the differences of CBD oil and Hemp oil, as well as a discussion as to why one is legal and the other isn’t.

Differentiating CBD Oil from Hemp Oil

What’s the difference between CBD oil and hemp oil in the first place?

CBD oil is, as the name implies, pure cannabidiol extract from cannabis plants, like hemp. However, the extract mainly comes from cannabis flowers. You can also extract cannabidiol from the stalk or leaves of the cannabis plant.

Digging deeper, CBD can help treat physical pain and there are studies hinting it could help treat Alzheimer’s disease as well. It has to work with other cannabinoids to fully function but there is one important detail here: they don’t get you high.

The ingredient in marijuana that gets people high is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. This is the substance in illegal marijuana aka pot that gets people to hallucinate and become languid. CBD oil doesn’t contain this, meaning you get to enjoy the medical benefits without the high.

Hemp oil, on the other hand, is an extract taken solely from hemp seeds. You can’t get it from the flowers or the leaves – only from the seeds. Hemp oil has the potential to treat inflammation, heart ailments, and aid in treating diabetes.

The best deal, however, is that hemp oil is legal. CBD oil is legal, in select states or CBD buds in the UK, so you have to be careful regarding what you’re getting and from where.

What About Ordinary Vapes?

Does this mean all e-liquids and other vaping necessities are off the table?

When it comes to vapes… Amazon has rules against this, but less stringent. In short:  Amazon prohibits the sale of vaporizers nor electronic cigarettes on their site along with nicotine tobacco products.

This is in part because of the different tobacco laws per state including age restrictions, which Amazon does not have systems in place to verify the age of their customers. In most states, you must be 18 to buy anything with tobacco and nicotine. In other places, like New Jersey and Alaska, the law states you should be 19. Amazon sells to every corner in the country and this could lead to people under 19 buying tobacco products even when their state doesn’t allow it.

That said, you can still SOMETIMES buy vaporizer some accessories, cigarette paper, and lighters but you simply can’t get anything with nicotine or tobacco.

WHY?

Amazon is a marketplace platform for selling goods and services. Most people don't realize that any accepted business can sell products through it's platform. Monitoring their hundreds of millions of SKU's is a task that can only be automated. Thus some prohibited items can make it through the automatic filters, while others can't.

Can you buy regular vape juice though?

The answer is yes. As long as it doesn’t contain nicotine and any label of CBD oil in it, you’ll find flavored concentrate juices on Amazon. This means you can look for any traditional e-liquid online, regardless of its PG/VG ratio and a chemical compound.

This is the exact reason why you’ll mostly find only fruity e-liquids on Amazon but nothing beyond those. You won’t even find vape juice with tobacco flavors or nicotine concentrations since those are both off-limits according to Amazon’s guidelines.

Where Can You Buy CBD Oil?

Buying CBD on Amazon, whether as pure oil extract or in vape juice, is trickier than most expect. That’s why you should avoid shopping for it on Amazon. There’s no guarantee that you’ll get what Amazon vendors claim to sell.

But, where can you get the genuine artifact then?

Yes, this article is great to hear. Unfortunately, it’s not simply a situation where Amazon only attracts low quality products. The bigger issue is that legitimate, larger brands in the CBD space can’t put their higher-end products on Amazon because Amazon still bans inclusion of the word “CBD” in the name or description, and these big brands aren’t going to bother changing their branding and marketing just to capture a niche in Amazon, but fly-by-night companies with no real established brand to protect can do that for quick money, and mask how much (or little) CBD is in their product because Amazon doesn’t let any merchant post that anyways. If you ask Amazon, they will tell you that, even since passage of the Farm Bill, they still explicitly exclude “Rich-hemp oil” (their catch-all term for CBD) from listing on their platform, so the only ones that show up are the ones that are purposely vague.
